Myc Ripley (10/8/14 performance recap)

On the night of October 8th, Myc Ripley shared his heart and soul with those who attended the "Fighting Words Tour" featuring Diabolic from NY and many other artists from the San Jose area. This performance was by far one of the best ones given by the California native and #lifeonchill man himself. He graced the stage for about 20 minutes total and kept heads bobbin' and the folks in tune the whole time. Below are some friend submitted pictures, photos were not taken because every Myc Ripley show is a rare occasion. One must attend to see the amazing talent this man holds. Playa Rae & Trey C of Independent Like A M#fuka were in town fresh off their #6DOSTOUR and asked me to be the host of their California Odyssey Tour with headliner Wildcard from Seattle.

Of course I did, it featured artists Hazy & Navarre from Rock Springs Wyoming, and Overtime out of Missoula, Montana. YDMC and Different Dope Music, E-Piff & J.Wonder, Max Bundles, Task1ne, Sammy Warm Hands with Ogar Burle and Playz joined them as well. On a three night run from Sacramento to San Jose, ending in Santa Cruz, it was definitely an experience to see these artists come from across the US to Cali to rep for the first time! They even added some international flavor with artist Arel James from Sydney, Australia as a special guest. Here are some stills/snippets from the evening. Look for these artists as they have been doing their thing for a minute.

On the build up to the release party for the "Think Like A King Move Like A Rebel" mixtape I had the pleasure of joining Cuckoo Danny, Haez One, and Doujah Lounge over at Egocrushen.com sessions for volume 57. Hosted by true San Jose OG's DJ Brotha Reese, Mr Tay, DJ Ace, and DJ Zoo. These dudes have a stream every 2nd & 4th Sunday showcasing DJs from all over. Check out the video and some still/snippets of our freestyle sesh. I have to say that we were for sure graced with this opportunity, once again glad to be a part of something very prosperous. Also, DJ J-Rome stopped in and graced us with the first all Reggae set. We had been planning to have a show with nothing but Reggae , looks like J-Rome took it upon himself to handle it...lol. DJ Ewock from San Francisco played a set bouncing across multiple genres of club bangerz.

Its amazing to know that there is genuine folks out here in this rap shit still. Shout outs to the whole Monstaville squad for putting on a dope event and letting me grace the stage for the evening!

Myc Ripley (°1979, Ukiah, United States) creates and performs music, media art and conceptual artworks. With a conceptual approach, Ripley wants to amplify the astonishment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of recognition and alienation.

His performances directly respond to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context. By creating situations and breaking the passivity of the spectator, he wants the listener to become part of the art as a kind of added component. Art is entertainment: to be able to touch the work, as well as to interact with the work is important.

His works are based on inspiring situations: visions that reflect a sensation of indisputability and serene contemplation, combined with subtle details of odd or eccentric, humoristic elements. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, he tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, likes to involve the listener in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work.

His work appears as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, well-known tropes merge, meanings shift, past and present fuse. Time and memory always play a key role. Myc Ripley currently lives and works in San Jose.

Since The Slapp Factor™ began, it has been promotion for everything Myc Ripley. From music to personal experiences that were few and far between, I have decided to take the blog a lot farther and start debuting/interviewing breakout artists other than myself and my Sharks In A 3 Peace Suit, Sharkstyliens, and L.O.C Covey family. That means more content and definitely more slappers from all over this huge world of music. Going forward, this year I would like to feature an artists every couple weeks that you all should lend an ear to. In these times, a share, a like, retweet, or anything of that nature helps an artist, because you never know who will be the next person to see and take to their music. Coppin’ the music is for sure the goal, but support plays its part in many ways. WE ALL OUTCHEA!! So, let’s make it happen!

Shout out and nothing but love to all that have been riding with Myc Ripley and friends. I do what I can for all of you out there when it comes to this music. At this point it feels right to step back and show off talent aside from mine. So, the other night me and the homies were out celebrating my fam No Alias' birthday.. To kick off the night we got off them vintage grape shots then headed to the club where the VIP was waiting for us. We about 6 deep, when the waitress arrived to serve us our bottles (don't worry about what we was drinkin') and they decided to make mimosas after the initial toast of the champagne.. While making them, one of the homies decides to stir up his OJ and champagne... WHOOPS!! Wrong idea, because we all know, or should know that when you shake champagne it get real furious [look at any sports championship]. Well, that shit overflowed and went everywhere. All you could hear from there was the homie R like, "Yo! Don't aggravate the champagne!" Me and Zeem Zeema (Tequila B) were dying laughing at the player words that just came out of the most "non-playerist" dude out the crew mouth.. Which he didn't even know what he said..
