Myc Ripley performing at "Diabolic | #FightinWordsTour" San Jose 10/08/14

On September 16th, Diabolic released his latest solo album titled “Fightin Words”. For fans of Diabolic, anticipation is at it’s peak right now. The album consists of production from the Legendary DJ Premier and features from none other than R.A. The Rugged Man, Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks), Sean Price, Apathy, Celph Titled & more. It’s absolutely some of his best work to date. 310 different kickstarter backers who backed a recent campaign for the album will vouch for it; and have. That speaks volumes in terms of support.

In October, that is where the tour kicks in. The Fightin Words Tour is ready to hit the road and showcase music from the album in support of it’s release. Not only that, but he will also be performing classic Diabolic tracks from his previous releases. If you caught him for shows on the War & Peace Tour w/Brother Ali & Immortal Technique then you know his stage performance is on point and very entertaining.

The tour makes a stop in San Jose, CA on October 8th at Back Bar SoFA brought to you by 408inc Media and The Cypher. Myc Ripley Hosts ILAM's "California Odyssey Tour" - Sacramento/San Jose/Santa Cruz

Playa Rae & Trey C of Independent Like A M#fuka were in town fresh off their #6DOSTOUR and asked me to be the host of their California Odyssey Tour with headliner Wildcard from Seattle.

Of course I did, it featured artists Hazy & Navarre from Rock Springs Wyoming, and Overtime out of Missoula, Montana. YDMC and Different Dope Music, E-Piff & J.Wonder, Max Bundles, Task1ne, Sammy Warm Hands with Ogar Burle and Playz joined them as well. On a three night run from Sacramento to San Jose, ending in Santa Cruz, it was definitely an experience to see these artists come from across the US to Cali to rep for the first time! They even added some international flavor with artist Arel James from Sydney, Australia as a special guest. Here are some stills/snippets from the evening. Look for these artists as they have been doing their thing for a minute.

YOGIE SHANKLES AND DONNY P.

Its funny how the universe works, it brings you what you need when you need it. With that said, I had the pleasure to speak with an upcoming artist (rapper/singer) from Oakland, CA. A very humble and talented individual who took the time to reach out to The Slapp Factor™ via Twitter to promote his sound. Yogie Shankle and his brother Donny P, Shankle Mob. Right now they are promoting their new mixtapes “Did I Do That” and “Heart Breaker Mixxtape Vol.1” I received the chance to preview a couple tracks from the mixtapes that were very well put together. From singing to rapping from being a little child, learning piano at 9, vocal lessons at 11, beat making, and a constant love for hip hop. Yogie Shankles possesses a unique voice that stands out from what I’ve heard recently. I know y’all like, “Yogie” cause I was just a curious. I asked and he got his name from being a smooth slick talker that can for sure talk his way in and out of a lot of situation presented. Kind of like Yogi Bear. So, his fam deemed it necessary.

We spoke for a while longer about what it takes and how long he and Donny P. the stand for “Phenom” who is his right hand man and has been singing, belonging to his church choir since a child at 7 years. He raps also, so there will be a definite blend of the too on his “Heart Breaker Mixxtape” [artwork above] which is due out last quarter 2013. They have been performing constantly for the last two year around the bay and are about to it to Atlanta in the next week, Los Angeles afterward, and the Canada in August. I can say they are taking the right steps to get the job done for something they love.

Yogie’s mixtape titled, “Did I Do That” [artwork above] is due for June 10th this year. He also has an albumin the making which is taking his time on so its perfect when released. We’ll just have to keep an eye out for that release, but this mixtape will keep you slappin’ until then!

The first song I heard was titled “Bad” featuring Donny P. This song is definitely for the ladies.. It starts of real smooth with a clever bar to get you interested., “You’re a bad girl and your friends, you got the swag, drippin’ swagu.” Saucy. Laced with smooth harmony from Donny P, I believe this song will get the ladies moving and the players can pull something off it. If you got game like that.

After that, I heard “Addicted To Money” this was that slapp for sure. For all the money getters, this on featured B-Pill, Nuk F. Banga, and Blaze. This reminds me some old school 3xKrazy with a slight YMCMB.. Which is a good thing, because it relevant and you can tell they’re from Oakland. I can see this one getting the club yankin’ anywhere.. Dope production and clever lyrics, they show out on this track.

Last song I played was “Top Floor” feat Donny P. and Westside Major. A real triumphant sound in this song, real glorious letting you know that they are the ones heading to the top literally. Real stunna lyrics over a dancehall violin riddim. These songs can definitely compete with the current DJ rotations.

So, the other night me and the homies were out celebrating my fam No Alias' birthday.. To kick off the night we got off them vintage grape shots then headed to the club where the VIP was waiting for us. We about 6 deep, when the waitress arrived to serve us our bottles (don't worry about what we was drinkin') and they decided to make mimosas after the initial toast of the champagne.. While making them, one of the homies decides to stir up his OJ and champagne... WHOOPS!! "A Long Time Reflecting Evolving Besieging Every Challenge" is the meaning of the name Al Trebec and Jeopardy is the theme of this particular free download. One day I [Dave Slappelle] was on the way to sampling the "Think Music" from the TV game show Jeopardy and somehow came across ten (10) different rhythms for the particular sample. So, what we chose to do was run with the Jeopardy music and make a whole theme out of it. Production is solely by Dave Slappelle for Inf8nitbeatslump Recordings.

Essentially, this tape touches on some issues that have been heavy on my brain for some time now. From certain subliminal messages and doings touching mankind and how we are becoming less and less aware of them. Hence the theme of Jeopardy, our world is for surely in jeopardy. It is slightwieght in the form of how the actual show would go, if it were to present in hip hop form.

I encourage you to download and pass it on to friends as you all have been doing with my last release. It started circulating behind the scenes as a thank you for those who have liked the Myc Ripley facebook fan page. Some people might have this already, but I honestly think that it will be a good 30 mins of your listening pleasures. Only, it vibes pretty well if I have to say so myself.
